Autoimmune alopecia

Autoimmune alopecia
Alopecia areata is considered to be an autoimmune alopecia condition. The condition actually is based off of the same basis as regular alopecia in the fact that you are subject to losing your hair in various patches. This particular condition is considered to be autoimmune simply because t-cells can be sent to the place where the hair has begun to fall out and hopefully cause the hair to grow back. Unlike regular alopecia your body actually tries to defend itself against this condition. There is no particular region where the hair loss has to appear. You can lose your hair in various places throughout your body. Many people do not pay attention to the hair loss however, until it makes its way to their scalp. It’s almost humorous that the hair loss ceases to affect people until it is located in an apparent place where everyone can see. This autoimmune alopecia does not have an age preference and can happen to anyone, whether it is man or woman. People often times get a misconstrued impression of what alopecia is. There are presently over a million people in the United States alone that are dealing with some form of the disease. There are many causes for the disease and for all the causes there are not that many symptoms. When the condition affects hairs on your arms or legs many people are quick to not react to it. It’s almost humorous in an aspect that people care more about what other people can see then what they can see. Obviously if you lost hair on your arms or legs instead of leaving it in patches you would shave the whole thing. However when you begin to develop the open patches of hair on your head you are more reluctant to want to do something about it so no one else realizes your problem. This proves in a sense that everyone is a little superficial. Obviously no one wants to lose their hair but people fail to act on the hair loss condition until it reaches their scalp. It’s a little baffling why people would not want to do something sooner before the condition began to spread like wildfire, yet they let it be and live with it. Your body does try to fight the autoimmune alopecia, it realizes that what it is going through is not right and begins to put itself in almost a form of an attack mode to fix the deficiencies of your body. There are many things that you can try to help your body with the process. You are basically put into the predicament where you have to try to awaken the dead hair follicles to begin sprouting hair again. It sounds complicated but it can be done.

Causes of bipolar disorder
Bipolar disorder is a psychological disorder which affects primarily the moods of an individual and thus the behaviour. Simply put, an individual with a Bipolar disorder experiences mood swings that fluctuate between polar opposites – Mania and Depression. In a manic episode the person experiences euphoria, extreme happiness, optimism, hyper-activity, restlessness, rapid speech etc. During a depressive episode the person is lethargic and low in energy, irritable and short tempered, has reduced appetite, constant tiredness, increased sleep etc. In severe cases of Bipolar disorder, there may be psychotic symptoms like hallucinations and delusions present, along with suicidal ideations during depressive episodes. Bipolar disorder can be very debilitating for the person. It can affect every area of the individual’s life and make it difficult to maintain normal relationships with family and friends, continue in a job or even function independently. Thus it becomes important to understand the causes of Bipolar disorder in order to take the appropriate preventive steps or make the right interventions. Like many other psychological conditions, the causes of Bipolar disorder are also not known. There are many theories about what could be probable causes of Bipolar disorder, but scientists and researchers are unable to point to any one specific cause. It is now considered that the causes of Bipolar disorder are both biological and psychological. One of the most common factors listed in the causes of Bipolar disorder are genetic factors. Studies have found that children of parents with Bipolar disorder are at much higher risk of developing the condition, which is to say first degree relatives of those with Bipolar disorder are at direct risk. However while genes have been implicated as a cause of Bipolar disorder, twin studies have shown that while one twin may have Bipolar disorder the other may not develop it even though they share the same genes. Another of the causes of Bipolar disorder is brain functioning. The neurotransmitters in the brain have been researched and a link has been found to exist between mood disorders and neurotransmitters. Studies show that an imbalance of the chemicals such as serotonin, norepinephrine or dopamine can be a cause of Bipolar disorder. Apart from the chemicals, the brain structure itself has been identified as being different in those with Bipolar disorder. Apart from biological factors, environmental factors may also cause Bipolar disorder. Stress triggers are also considered to play a pivotal role in the development of Bipolar disorder. These stressors can be anything including loss of a job, death in the family, divorce, moving houses, birth of a child etc. However since everyone has different thresholds of tolerating stress, each person will be affected by different stressors.

Difference between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

Difference between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
Even with our extensive knowledge of mental disorders, there are some disorders that have such similar symptoms that it is very difficult to differentiate between them. Some disorders which create such a difficulty are Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder. The symptoms of both can overlap to such an extent that even mental health professionals can sometimes make errors in diagnosing the condition. It is important to understand the difference between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder to avoid giving the wrong treatment which might only worsen the situation. A person with bipolar disorder experiences extreme mood variance, swinging between mania and depression, both of which last for abnormal amounts of time. Thus the person may be euphoric for weeks with a feeling of invincibility, increased productivity along with hyperactivity, decreased sleep, rapid speech etc. and then he or she may come crashing down and fall into a dejected and low mood during which life doesn’t seem worth living and self-worth is very low. The person feels tired and lethargic all the time and in severe cases has suicidal ideation. In very serious cases of bipolar disorder the patient may exhibit psychotic symptoms which include hallucinations and delusions. Symptoms of schizophrenia primarily involve hallucinations (auditory, tactile, visual etc) and delusions (grandeur, paranoid, reference, somatic etc). Apart from these a person with schizophrenia will often show symptoms of disorganised speech, affective flattening where the emotional range and intensity of the person is reduced along with an inability to pick up emotional cues from other people, avolition which is a difficulty in sticking to goal directed behaviour etc. Since both disorders may lead to the person demonstrating lowered levels of energy, a lack of interest in life, lack of goals and easy distractibility, rapid (and confusing) speech, inappropriate social skills and of course the hallucinations and delusions, it is easy to get confused between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. However there are specific distinctions between the two. Bipolar disorder is basically a mood disorder where the moods of the person are affected which then bring about a change in the behaviour. In schizophrenia the primary symptoms are the hallucinations and delusions which distort reality for the person and they are unable to separate reality from unreal situations. Those with bipolar disorder are able to live normal lives when taking proper medication and between extreme mood states are quite normal with normal interaction with those around them. However those with schizophrenia are generally unable to live independent lives and chronic patients may not be able to function without assistance. A person with bipolar disorder swings between mania and depression and may never truly be in a catatonic state which is typical of schizophrenia. There is also complete emotional detachment in the latter disorder. In the former, the person is highly emotional (either high or low) due to the mood being primarily affected. Finally psychotic symptoms are not necessarily present in bipolar disorder while it is a primary symptom of schizophrenia.

Baby vaccination schedule
Babies spend 9 months in a safe and sterile surrounding; away form harmful infections and organisms. As far as the mother can, she protects her unborn baby from anything that can hamper his/her development. From this safe environment, the baby suddenly finds itself in an environment that is riddled with viruses and bacteria. As parents, it is our responsibility to continue providing our babies with the protection that kept them safe before birth. On birth, babies are protected naturally for a little while because of the antibodies from the mother. They get further antibodies from the colostrum which is present in breast milk. However, this immunity that the baby gets from its mother does not last forever. It begins to wear off as the baby’s own immune system starts to develop. When this begins to happen, the baby is susceptible to all forms of bacteria and viruses that can make it fall sick. At this time it is important that the baby’s immune system has the capacity to fight any diseases that come its way. This is done through vaccinations. A baby vaccination schedule is very useful in making sure that your baby gets all the important vaccines that will help fight illness. Baby vaccination schedules differ for countries mainly in the duration over which they can be taken. However all baby vaccination schedules have the same list of vaccines that are important for the baby. At 8 weeks, the baby is given vaccines for: Tetanus Polio Diphtheria Haemophilus influenzae type b Pneumococcal virus According to the baby vaccination schedule, at 12 weeks, the baby is given the following vaccines: Diphtheria Haemophilus Influenzae type b Meningitis C Polio Tetanus The baby vaccination schedule suggests that at 16 weeks, the following vaccines are given: Diphtheria Haemophilus Influenzae type b Meningitis C Polio Tetanus Pneumococcal virus At 12 months, according to the baby vaccination schedule the baby gets a combination vaccine of Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR). This dose is repeated at 15 months of age. Along with these basic vaccines, the baby vaccination schedule also recommends other vaccines for the baby including Hepatitis A and B, Varicella, and Meningococcal.
